Mt. Himlung, standing at an elevation of 7126 meters above sea level(23380ft.) lies close to the Tibetan border in the Manaslu region northeast of the Annapurna range. Expedition for Himlung Himal follows round Annapurna route to Koto and from Koto towards Nar – Phu village. The route passes through high peaks and passes, remote villages, narrow gullies, forests, rocks, springs, Gompas, and unique cultural settlements. Since the area is remote and untouched very few tourists have visited the region. Himlung was first climbed on October 3, 1992, by Osamu Hanai, Akio Koizumi, and Nima Sherpa as a part of the Japanese expedition.

The ascent involves setting up three camps above the base camp. Camp I is situated at approximately 5620 meters (18438 feet), while Camp II rests an additional 370 meters (1214 feet) higher, at 5990 meters (19652 feet). Camp III awaits at 6320 meters (20735 feet), and this is the last camp marking the final stop before the summit.

The Himlung Expedition is not only about climbing a mountain but is a life-changing moment for each and all climbers who try to conquer it. The Mt. Himlung expedition is suitable for beginners who are seeking training for 8000er or 7000er peak climbs. This peak can be the best option for starting a mountaineering career. Join us on your Dream Adventure to Everest Expedition with the Experts! Get in Touch!

After we reach base camp, we will get a 1 or 2-day leisure day to acclimatize our body well. Our sherpa team will decide on our puja day on a very auspicious day according to the lunar calendar. The puja ceremony in other words is taking permission from nature to step on their body. The local ethnic group from the valley believes that all mountain has their own gods and goddesses, so we need to get permission before we step on. The Puja ceremony is performed by the monk from the nearby village, Phu-goun. Your guide will instruct you well on the day before the ceremony. The day will be full of relaxation, enjoyment, dancing, and singing.

After the day of the auspicious puja ceremony, your training session will start. Trip Notes

Risk factors of climbing Himlung

1. Falling in Crevasse:

Falling on the crevasse is the most common danger while climbing mountains in Nepal. Because of the rapid flow of Glaciers down, it makes a large number of deep crevasses. Climbers are usually connected with the fixed line all the time while moving through and crevasses are crossed with the help of a ladder bridge. This is done to ensure that if they accidentally step on a weak snow bridge or slip off a ladder, the rope will catch them from falling into the crevasse. However, many accidents of falling in crevasses occur when climbers are not properly connected to the rope. There are not many crevasses in this mountain like other mountains, but some deep crevasses can be found above c1.

2. Avalanches:

Avalanches are one of the most common hazards in the mountains. Himlung Himal is safer than other peaks but some of the places above c1 may happen some avalanches.

3. High Altitude sickness, HAPE/HACE.

High altitude sickness is the most common hazard for climbers on any mountains. It is caused by the lack of oxygen in the body and the lack of proper acclimatization in the mountains. Mostly high-altitude sickness can be seen above 2500 meters above sea level.

High altitude Pulmonary Edema is a fatal form of severe high-altitude illness. HAPE is a form of noncardiogenic pulmonary edema that occurs secondary to hypoxia. It is a severe case of AMS and it affects your lungs and causes death High-Altitude Cerebral Edema is a rare but life-threatening altitude disease and is also a severe case of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). It is caused by leaky capillaries in the brain, which causes fluid accumulation and brain swelling.

4. Extreme weather conditions.

The mountain can be especially challenging due to the colder temperatures and harsher weather conditions because of climbing on the north face of the mountain. It’s crucial to be prepared for these extremes to minimize the risk of frostbite and cold injuries, as experienced by some climbers in past expeditions.

On summit day, we recommend using 8000-meter suits designed for extreme cold, as well as high-quality boots paired with warm, moisture-wicking socks to ensure maximum insulation and comfort. Additionally, be sure to have proper layering and accessories, such as gloves and balaclavas, to protect exposed skin. Staying vigilant about any signs of frostbite or cold-related issues is essential for a safe and successful climb. Remember, it’s better to be over-prepared than to risk your safety in these conditions!

We, the altitude experts team studied all the above hazards and trained our guide team about the solutions.

A. Precautions that our experienced guides team suggested

    1. Avoid climbing while 2 or more meters of fresh snow falls in 24 hours.
    2. Always stay connected to the fixed rope, even while crossing ladders.
    3. Limit stops to just a few minutes at any spot.
    4. Follow the instructions given by your Guide.
    5. Use good quality gear and clothing designed for high-altitude mountaineering.

Our well-experienced and well-trained guide team will train you at base camp about the fixed line, the use of climbing gears, crossing the ladders, and more. Our guides will accompany you all the time in Icefall and help you with each step to ensure your safety.

B. Our team is well-trained in mountain medicines and wilderness first aid. We are very concerned about our team’s safety, that’s why we are well preplanned about all kinds of hazards that can occur in the mountains. In each camp, we take bottles of supplemental oxygen in case of emergency with us, and we are well-equipped with necessary medicines and safety gear. Our basecamp crews will always eye on you and be prepared to evacuate as soon as needed.

We designed the best rotation that suits all levels of people who live at sea level, to acclimatize well on the mountain.

Our team is well-prepared and well-planned to avoid any kind of hazards and we promise to make our clients safe and successful trips.

Important Points to Remember:

  1. This is not a luxury tour; it's the experience of a lifetime. Accommodation provided during your trip is on a twin-share basis. While luxurious rooms with attached bathrooms are available in Kathmandu, other places along the trail may offer simpler accommodations with stunning Himalayan views. Local lodges provide hot showers, internet, and charging facilities for a nominal fee during the trek to the base camp.

  1. Savor the Fresh Himalayan Foods: Enjoy the delightful flavors of fresh Himalayan foods at the teahouses along the trail. Embrace the local cuisine and immerse yourself in unique culinary experiences.

  1. Cost of Goods: Due to the logistical challenges of transportation and the necessity to bring goods by jeep and bus to Koto, followed by mule or porter transport, prices of goods in this region can be higher, sometimes over 50% more expensive than in Kathmandu.

  1. Physical Fitness: A good level of fitness is required for this trek. However, we prioritize your well-being and ensure proper acclimatization. Stay hydrated and limit alcohol consumption to acclimate better to the altitude.

  1. Unpredictable Weather: The Himalayas are known for their unpredictable weather conditions. The itinerary may have unforeseen schedule changes depending on the road conditions.

  1. Climbing Activities and Flexibility: All climbing activities are planned based on the best weather forecast reports. However, factors like weather conditions, fixed lines, and the risk of avalanches may require adjustments to the scheduled plans. Be open to changes in the itinerary for a safe and successful trek.

  1. Extra Time in Nepal: It is advisable to allow for an extra day or two in Nepal after your trip. This provides flexibility in case of any unforeseen delays or changes to the itinerary. Additionally, it allows you to explore other exciting activities like rafting, safaris, and more adventures, enhancing your overall experience in Nepal.
